I still miss the hell out of this beautiful man. He had the blues in him, was a highly talented musician and writer, and let me tell you, I thought he was the most foxy and elegant male I have ever seen. :) Maybe he was lucky cutting out when he did, leaving before he became repetitive or too sick to work or whatever. At any rate, I will never forget him, and when it is my turn to skip the vale, I'm going to go and say hi to him.

I have the Eagle Vision version of R&B and as far as I know it's the UK version because it contains no enhanced track and the track listing doesn't match the US version. I came across it in a used CD store one day. It seems like his later albums were different in all regions based on musical tastes. I suppose the US version is more pop and reminiscent of his 80s tracks, I see 'Dance For Me' is in the listing.

Robert Palmer's name was ALAN ROBERT PALMER. He changed it to Robert, because he didn't want anyone to confuse him with the other ALAN in the band, which was (THE) ALAN BOWN. His middle name, therefore, was ROBERT!!

Thought of RP in Lugano

I was fortunate to be able to visit Lugano on my trip to Switzerland. Although there was no memorial to visit, I could see why Robert Palmer chose to live in Lugano. It's a beautiful place, with easy access to Milan, but more gentle and laid back.

The single occasionally appears on Ebay and contains a single mix as distinct from the album. Ive also seen a few retailers associated with amazon advertising second hand copies. The Uk version of the R&B album in 1999 has a video of the song as an extra

Robert's music helped me through a 25-year abusive marriage. Robert sang love songs, and his songs gave me hope in love. Also, he sang so many different types of songs: witty, funny, upbeat, and beautiful. After my ex left and some time to heal, I am now married to someone who is nice to me.

Hello, as a long-time fan of Robert Palmer, I have most of his 45 rpm and 33 rpm records, EPs, cassettes, CDs, radio interviews, VHS videos and DVDs, all in their orginal sleeves with notes and in very good condition. I also have most of his magazine articles in the complete magazines. I am downsizing and would like my collection to go to his family. I'm pretty sure that was the tour of the summer of 91. I saw them in Pittsburgh with Terence Simian and the Mallet Playboys as the opener. I'll try to find some memorabilia from that tour and see if any dates were around you.

I meant to say I played RP's cover of Rudgren's Can we Still be Friends..gosh! Such a haunting version..it's a love anthem that's for sure. So many of my friends, problems with love, etc..maybe I'm just feeling sensitive about life a bit..but anyway, I drowned myself in Robert Palmer for about and hour or so. Hard to believe still he's not of this world..physically anyway..

So good to hear that some rare RP music has surfaced after all these years. Too bad it's not readily available to the general fans. I miss personally interpreting Robert's take on life and love through his musical, lyrical and graphic artwork releases, that I enjoyed so much in the past. His efforts became so much a part of my life's soundtrack that I almost felt he was a close friend or even a part of my own family. I keep his memory alive by playing his CDs and videos whenever I get the chance. Take care Mark & Julie!

I would be more than willing to pay for a copy or possibly trade for other material. Granted I may not have the most complete collection of Roberts material but I do have more than just the obvious. Several items include call in radio shows that were broadcast in 1988 to promote Heavy Nova and 1990 for Don't Explain. I have never offered these online (ie Ebay) as I am not looking to make a quick buck, simply put I love listening to Roberts music. Any consideration would be more than appreciated.

Fantastic CD, coming from Robert Palmer's management company! Probably the rarest RP item!

This promo edition contains 17 tracks, including 5 which are not on any commercial release : Keep It To Yourself, Hello Josephine, You Call It Jogging, Hungry Country Girl and I Like It. Palmer is again in fine voice on all these recordings and the musicianship is excellent throughout. I especially like his take on Fats Domino's Hello Josephine which is quite respectful of the original.

The mastering seems to be not quite finished as you can hear Robert say "Fantastic, absolutely fantastic!" at the end of You Call It Jogging, but the sound quality is as good as on the regular CD.

Universal should really get the vaults to include these songs on an expanded reissue of the album or on a boxset to coincide with Island 50th anniversary celebrations...

Don't Explain Tour

I was fortunate enough to see Robert during the Heavy Nova tour, and regret that it was the last time I saw him. Does anyone know if Robert did a show for the Don't Explain album specifically in or around Buffalo, New York? My research came up with a stop in Cleveland, Ohio for the Rhythm And Blues tour but nothing close for the Don't Explain album.

I was out of the country when he passed, just saw the date of his passing. Whew, a moment of silence. Not a groupee type fan, but a Generation X gal who rounded a teenage momental turn with his music. Honor and respect- hopefully while the gifted are still living.

I really do hope there is something some day for us fans to go to, even if it is just a convention spot. We need to do something to celebrate his birth/death with. Maybe for the 10th or 20th anni there should be a convention planned with music trading, video watching, ect., but we have a few years to plan that, should anyone want to go forward with the idea.

Just to let you know there is a really nice item being auctioned on ebay at the moment:

Drive - rare CD promo 17 tracks

This has 4 or 5 songs not on the commercial release and I think it might be unmastered also. The songs that did not make it on to the commercial release compare well with the tracks that were included and include a couple of the songs Robert picked for the programme filmed at Ronnie Scotts a few days before he died. This is well worth bidding on and hopefully whoever buys it will share it with other fans too.

I'm looking for info on a set of records (music) I have with Robert Palmer's signature on the cover. It's a 3-record boxed set titled "Superstar Concert Series: The Ultimate Radio Concerts," a presentation of Westwood One (America's number one producer of nationally sponsored radio programs, concerts and specials). All 6 sides of the 3 records has the identification "SS86-F" on them and it states "Not For Sale... For Licensed Broadcast Use Only." The box cover has a black and white photograph of what looks like a huge football stadium full of people with a big old-school boom box at the "stage" top center. I would very much appreciate any information anyone could provide as to what concert this might have been and if Robert Palmer performed at it and/or how someone might have obtained his signature on the box cover.

Robert was indeed a party man by all accounts....I'll put reference on the newspage shortly....but Ive been reading Andy Taylors account of being in Duran Duran....he was very fond of robert obviously but his account of meeting and working with him show Robert in a very positive light....and he had an ability to party and never "drop a beat in the studio" according to Andy

Andys account of first meeting Robert at a party prior to the Power station days were of the sight of Robert fairly stoned and evcentually coming around to be a true gentleman....what a man!

Nice story, but I didn't think that Robert was into hash. He always said that he didn't get into that whole drug scene. Hash isn't the worst, but still I didn't take Robert for the type to even do that. I knew he chain smoked cigarrettes and like to drink Malt whiskey. Whatever the case, thanks for sharing this story. I was never fortunate to meet Robert before he passed away.

Last night I had a dream about Robert(circa 1979) performing onstage with his shirt off and all the ladies went so crazy grabbing at him that he was literally pulled off the stage and into the audience. I haven't dreamed about him in a while so this was really strange. Have any of you others had any Robert dreams.

Thanks man... I got quite sentimental last night remembering everything. I first drove trucks out of New Orlerans for a living... unloading 16 tons of food a night got me pretty fit... then whilst riding my Norton 850 Commando out on River Road, (the road that runs along the Mississippi), an old Cajun ran a stop sign; broadsided me in his ancient 5 ton Chevy, and took my leg off. When Robert heard about it he called me and said, "Go to the airport, there's a ticket waiting for you...' He flew me out to the Bahamas and put me up for a couple of weeks at his house on the beach across the street from Island record's Full Compass studios. After a while I asked, "Why am I here man..." He replied, "Well it sounded like you needed a rest."

A gracious man... who wouldn't love him?
