THE POWER STATION 1985
In January 1985, Palmer joins Duran Durans John and Andy Taylor together with Tony Thompson (Chic drummer) to form the Power Station "supergroup". In April, the bands first album "Power Station" hits UK #12 and goes on to reach US #6 spawning the hit singles "Some Like It Hot" (US #6 UK #14), "Get It On" (US #9 UK #22) and "Communication" (US #34 UK #75).

RIPTIDE 1985
In November 1985, "Discipline Of Love (Why Did You Do It)", the first single from Palmers forthcoming album, "Riptide", produced by Chics Bernard Edwards, makes US #82. The album initially proves to be a slow seller, hitting UK #69. However, on May 3rd 1986 "Addicted To Love" from the album (originally written by Palmer as a duet for Chaka Khan but to which she provides vocal arrangements instead) hits US #1. Its Palmers first worldwide million seller. Its aided by a testosterone inducing Terence Donovan directed video clip featuring black mini skirted models strumming instruments. MTV rotates the video around the clock and it becomes an all time classic scooping an MTV award. In June, "Addicted To Love" hits UK #5 and pushes "Riptide" to #5 also. In July, "Hyperactive" makes US #33. In August, the Jam & Lewis penned "I Didnt Mean To Turn You On" reaches UK #9. The video, again directed by Donovan, features ladies in sexy dress. The song s success results in "Riptide" going back to UK #5. On November 8th 1986, "I Didnt Mean..." hits US #2 while the re-issued "Discipline Of Love (Why Did You Do It) makes UK #68.
